Campers show off at House of Culture

Story Picture
We covered them when they opened, and as several summer camp sessions come to a close, we thought we’d stop back to see how the campers made out. Ann-Marie Williams is up first from the House of Culture in Belize City.

After a month-long summer camp at the House of Culture, today was the day for over hundred children to show off for their parents and friends.

Melissa Forman, Dance Facilitator

“We basically went over three different dances and the kids enjoyed every moment of it.”

And for the children of group two who did the Electric Slide, they enjoyed every moment.

Melissa Forman

“For the electric slide we did what you call the walk sideways with the different sides. You had the running, where you had to move your shoulders, you had the twist and that was basically it for the electric slide.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“How receptive were they to new steps and new techniques?”

Melissa Forman

“We tried not to make the steps as difficult we knew we had younger kids that we had to deal with it as well, as well as the older ones. So we found the most basic steps that they were more comfortable with and they performed it to their best.”

But the UNICEF sponsored camp was much more than an opportunity to sing or dance. Each participant also learnt how to use their hands, turning out several pieces of craft. Ann-Marie Williams for News 5.
