Milton Palacio will conduct basketball camp

Story Picture
Beginning Monday, Belizean children from the city and San Pedro will participate in a series of basketball camps hosted by the NBA’s Milt Palacio. Palacio will arrive in the country over the weekend and will spend a week teaching boys and girls between ages eight and nineteen how to handle themselves on the court. According to local co-ordinator, Paul Flowers, the program has been a long-time dream of Milton.

“The camps are for boys and girls, you do not have to have any basketball experience, no prior basketball experience necessary at all. He is going to give you a complete package; you’re going to get your fundamentals, along with your fun, autographs, and photographs of Milton Palacio. You’re gonna get Polaroid’s with Milton himself, gifts from the NBA and tapes on fundamentals. It’s gonna be a really great day. The kids will be there all day, it’s two age groups, eight to fourteen and fifteen to nineteen. They’ll be there all day, fed at midday and shown film and stuff like that, entertained at halftime and basically a wonderful time for all the one-day sessions that we will be having.”

“Milt is taking time out of his schedule and money out of his pocket. He is doing this initiative on his own and basically with support from a of people, but this is Milton Palacio’s initiative and he wants to start a basketball summer programme in Belize for the next fifty years.”

For children between ages eight and fourteen there is a ten-dollar registration fee. For participants fifteen to nineteen, the cost is twenty dollars. Payments can be made at the National Sports Council and Gwen Lizarraga High School. Deadline for registration is Friday evening.
