Three officers of Region One were recognized for their exceptional policing. They are Corporal Everisto Cob, Police Constable Alexander Shal and Corporal Christopher Smith. Smith and Cob were chosen as the Police officers for the months of May and June respectively while Shal was recognized for his community outreach programmes.
Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett, Commander, Region One E.D.
“One if for the month of May, the other is for the month of June and the third is for the community outreach programmes that this guy PC 1414 Shal has been doing. He has done the GREAT program at the prison, at the Wagner’s Youth Facility and he is the person in charge for the cadets at Rocky Road and also at Mayflower Street. The Corporal Evaristo Cob, h has recently gotten a gun off the street. But it is not rewarding him for the gun alone but it’s for the collaboration, engagement that he has and the trust that the public has in him. So we want other officers to emulate his style with dealing with the public. He is also the police officer responsible for detecting the fake police officers who were going around in Belize City and other parts of the country.”
Commander of Region One, Senior Superintendent of Police Howell Gillett says that the award system should encourage other police officers to carry out their responsibilities in a more devoted manner.
“When a police officer does wrong we are quick to punish that police officer. So when they do right like this case we must highlight it, we must recognize it and we must send the right that what they have done is salient and we want others to follow. And the third person is Corporal Christopher Smith. He is being rewarded for the month of May. He has recommendation from all his supervisors in Precinct Two. We are very pleased to be rewarding him.”
For Corporal Smith, the recognition further motivates him to be more dedicated in carrying out his duties.
Cpl. Christopher Smith, Police Officer for the Month of May
“Well I basically just did what I sworn an oath to do which is to serve and protect and do the best of my abilities. Also as a supervisor at Precinct Two I do my best to assist all persons if I can and that basically what I did, just my job.”

“You know that being a police officer is a difficult career, does this motivate you to do more?”
Cpl. Christopher Smith
“I would say yes in a sense but I am always motivated. I feel very honored to be a police officer. A lot of people might not like us, the job we do but I wear this uniform with pride. Everyday go to work, I try to do my best and being able to serve the public that is reward enough. This is just an extra incentive to work harder.”
Corporal Smith was awarded a dinner for two at Chon Son restaurant while Corporal Cob received dinner for two at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and PC Shal received a gift certificate to shop at Dibary. Reporting for News Five, I am Hipolito Novelo.
