Career criminal shot dead by robbery victim
He had been arrested forty-three times and was the subject of eight convictions, all at the tender age of twenty-two. But early Sunday morning the criminal career of Roque Rosado came to an abrupt end, when he was shot dead by residents of a house he was trying to rob. When police arrived at 88 Shopping Centre on Central American Boulevard around two thirty-five on Sunday morning, they found Rosado’s body lying in a corridor on the second floor of the building. They believe he and two other young men had broken into the second floor of the building, using a ladder to gain access to an upstairs back window. The men cut away at the window’s burglar bars and used a pipe to pry open the sliding panes. Once inside the room, the intruders made their way across a corridor and into a bedroom where Li Gi-yu and Li Xie-ging were sleeping. The couple was tied up with duct tape and a total of two hundred and thirty dollars was stolen from them. But as the crime was in progress, another Chinese businessman who lives at the house, Ma Gua-zhi, entered the room. Ma was held at gunpoint while the thieves went into a living room to search for more money. But as the duo made their way to the room, there was an exchange of gunfire. Police investigations reveal that as Rosado and his unidentified accomplice reached the room, they were surprised by yet another resident, Yan Pei-yang. Yan, who was armed with a licensed thirty-eight revolver, fired at the men. The men fired back with a nine-millimetre pistol and by the time the shootout was over, Yan lay wounded with five shots to his body. Rosado, who wore a blue mask, got the worst of the exchange and lay dead with a bullet wound to the head. Meanwhile, Rosado’s two partners escaped through the same window they had used to enter. Police believe that one of the suspects may have been injured because they came upon a trail of blood. Police also found an additional black mask. Today, Police say they have detained three young men in connection with the incident and are looking for two other suspects. Meanwhile, Yan remains in a stable condition at the Belize Medical Associates. Police believe that Rosado was the mastermind behind the burglary as well as other hold-ups in the city.
