Messenger Injured During Robbery on Saint Thomas Street
Reports were received of a shooting incident this evening in Belize City for which one man, believed to be a messenger, was injured. Sometime around five o’clock rush hour, the corners of Saint Joseph and Saint Thomas Streets in the vicinity of the YWCA swimming pool was cordoned off by police who responded to the scene where a man was on the ground; his bicycle a short distance away. The person was transported to the K.H.M.H. for medical assistance. Police has since issued an official report on the incident indicating that it wasn’t a shooting. Nyrere Parchue, a messenger of Belize City was riding a bicycle on Saint Thomas Street when he was approached by another individual who took aim at him with a firearm. His attacker demanded that he surrender a folder containing documents. When the assailant took possession of the folder, Parchue set chase after him and cornered him on Saint Joseph Street. The thief then pointed the firearm once again at Parchue at which point he fell onto the pavement, hitting his head and losing consciousness. He was treated at the K.H.M.H. for injuries to the right side of the head and both hands.
