Sunrise tops Wicked 11 in cricket playoffs
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re right on time for this latest issue of Sports Monday. The Harrison Parks Cricket Championship Series kicked off the first of three matches Saturday at Lord’s Bank with Sunrise hosted to an undefeated Wicked 11 of Flower’s Bank, looking to step up as champions in 2002.
It’s Sunrise batting first and here they show good offensive form as they maximise this defensive error by Wicked 11. They pick up a couple more runs on this nice splice. Add four more runs to Sunrise’s total with this connection here. Of course raising the ball this high in the air is tantamount to suicide as demonstrated by the sure hands of the Wicked 11 defence.
For those of you who never seen a six, this is what it looks like people–and after 10 batters, Sunrise has struck for 123 runs, thanks to a 27 run output from Nelson Parks.
And this is the pitch that sends Sunrise of Lord’s Bank packing with 123 runs.
So here comes Wicked 11 on offence and Eddison parks immediately smashes down this batter without conceding a single run; it’s a good omen. A few minutes later, Broaster gets this batter with the easy infield pop-up.
The Wicked ones do get much needed offence from Lawrence Banner who goes for six here and would finish with 19 runs batted in. However, Eddison parks cuts him down with this wicked curve he simply can’t catch up with.
On the very next pitch, Sunrise records another out, cutting the heart out of the Wicked 11, who went all out for a mere 100 runs.
Thus, Sunrise takes game one. Game two comes up this Saturday at Flower’s Bank with the host team finding itself in a do or die situation.
Turning to the football scene, Sir George Brown and his Acros Bombers took their semi-pro aspirations against Lazio F.C. at Orange Walk yesterday.
By the time our cameras joined the ballgame, Lazio had already leapt to 3-zip showing at the half. This score held up to long whistle as Lazio F.C. eliminates Acros Bombers.
Also eliminated yesterday was La Costena of Orange Walk, the National First Division Champion who got burned by a 2-1 score at the island by San Pedro Football Club.
San Pedro and Lazio F.C. will now battle for the only remaining berth in the semi-pro football league in a home and away series began this Sunday at O.W.
In Capital Life basketball play over the weekend, we don’t have the official statistics, but we do know that Shell Music Centre dropped off the Raiders 88-85 in overtime on Friday at O.W., and then on Sunday bombed B.T.L. Nets 93-86. One of those two Belize City teams just might not make the playoffs. Incidentally it may well be B.T.L. because Wednesday night they go up against defending champions San Cas U.B., you know San Cas U.B. with Kobe and Shaq. It happens Wednesday night at the City Centre. you won’t want to miss it.
That’s our show for today, we invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
