Philip Willoughby is Appointed to the NICH Board
Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber confirmed two appointments within his ministries while at an event held today at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City. Phillip Willoughby will be named to the board of the NICH. Last week, DPM Patrick Faber signed off on the appointment of board members including Willoughby and three others. While he did not confirm the names of the members, Faber praised Willoughby. Last Tuesday, the former councilor resigned from his job at NEMO after a legal opinion confirmed he could not get involved in political activity while in the employ of the government. His new appointment now clears the way for him to run for the United Democratic Party in Port Loyola. But interestingly, Willoughby has the support of both Faber and John Saldivar, his contender to the U.D.P. leadership, who has already express support for Willoughby to run in the Port. Here’s what the DPM had to say.
Patrick Faber, Deputy Party Leader, U.D.P.
“Yes it is. I can confirm that Mister Willoughby is appointed to the NICH Board. I believe he brings a tremendous ability to work in that area. You know that he has been very involved in the work of the city—not only the city, he brings a lot of the table so we have appointed Mister Willoughby.”

“Sir would this then pave way for him to be able to run for standard bearer for Port Loyola? OUT 15:24
Patrick Faber
“It is not a job that Mister Willoughby has been given at NICH; serving on the board is not a job; it is not a paid position whatsoever. So it is neither here or there whether that allows him to run. My understanding if you are asking me separately from his appointment to the NICH Board. He was told as the case with other people who are aspiring that you cannot hold a government job whether it is by your official appointment or a contract…to be treated with just as if you were a member of public service…either you choose not to run or if you choose to run, you vacate the office that you hold and I believe Mister Willoughby made it clear to all concerned that he would be resigning his position. In fact you may see a copy of his intention to do so that he wrote to the C.E.O. in the Ministry of NEMO.”
In the Port, Willoughby will go against the likes of the attorney general Michael Peyrefitte. Another contender is Dean Samuels, who says he ain’t backing down, and Shane Castillo.
