Belizean Raleigh Venturers head south
They were an institution in Belize for seven years, as Raleigh International brought thousands of hardworking volunteers to participate in community projects. While the British based charity has moved on to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, it is still maintaining close relations with Belize. This evening we found five Belizean Venturers waiting for a flight south to join the latest Raleigh expedition…all expenses paid.
Yvonne Codd, Co-ordinator, Youth Department
“Well this trip is very significant in that these young people will be going to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, where they will be exposed to different cultures and they will be dealing with swimming projects, diving projects, environmental projects and community projects. That will help them to bring back to Belize all that they have learnt about these people and their culture and be able to serve the community as good volunteers.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Rudimir what kind of experience you’re hoping to gain from this trip?”
Rudimir Magana, Raleigh Venturer
“Well I’m hoping to get some adventure, thrills, because I like to try myself, like to experience new things, to see what I could do and what I can’t do.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Judy how did you prepare yourself for the trip?”
Judy Magana, Raleigh Venturer
“There was an assessment, we had to go to Camp Oakley to take training and we had to go to Calabash Caye to take SCUBA diving course.”
Jacqueline Woods
“How are you looking forward to your trip?”
Judy Magana
“I’m very anxious to go.”
