This evening, the first twenty-six graduates of Tubal Trade Institute received certificates after successfully completing a three-month course in computer, electrical and automotive mechanics.

“The programme was catered to six months…the hours catered for six month programmes, but we ended up doing it in three months because of the fact that we went for the whole day instead of half day. So we ended up covering the amount of hours quickly.”

The centre is a private learning institution, but government has financially assisted the school giving by its students scholarships. Nineteen-year-old Brent Gladden, the valedictorian, encourages youths to take advantage of the various skills training offered at the institution.

“It was a great experience because I got to meet new people and associate with them, get to know them better.”

Eric Gabourel, the school’s principal, says even though the institution is new, he is optimistic that the business community will support the graduates.

“It will be a bit difficult at first because a lot of people haven’t really gotten used to the name Tubal as yet, and they are not sure how is it we function, is it by the government. So it will be a bit stagnant for first, but I know that they’ll definitely get through with it. And we’ll push from this side through the media so that people can be aware that yes it is a recognised school by the Government of Belize.”

Reporting for News 5, Jacqueline Woods.

A total of seventy students attend the school in Ladyville.
