Will Fiestarama Be Cancelled?

According to Deputy Mayor Ian Cal, the revenues generated from Fiestarama are used to fund a summer program for youth in the municipality. He says that if the National Sports Council insists in collecting the five thousand dollars rental fee for the People’s Stadium, Fiestarama will be postponed or worse, cancelled.

“The proceeds from Fiestarama are used for a student program where we assist a number of students with a grant for school. This is where the council comes in. Remember this council does not get any assistant from the Government or the Ministry of Education to hold any student program. So this is what the council uses to support that. Five thousand dollars can be used that. They did mention that the five thousand is the standard fee they charged to anyone who wants to use the stadium however they must keep in mind that this is not a fundraiser for profit. This is not a concert. This is not a private party. This is a municipal fair that benefits everyone from the community, especially the students of Orange Walk Town.”

“Hipolito, I am hopeful that they would change their minds. We sent them back an email stating our position. At the end of the day Hipolito politics should never get involved in these types of things because if we stop Fiestarama the amount of students that will be affected…it is municipal fair where everyone enjoys it. Both UDP and PUP, people from all the districts come. So I am very hopeful that they will change their minds if they don’t sad to say we will have to cancel or postpone Fiestarama for another date.”
