A Stevedore is Executed on His Way Home from Port

There was an execution in the city early on Tuesday night but stevedore, Raymond Arnold did not survive the second attempt on his life. At about seven-thirty after completing his duties for the day at the Port, Arnold was murdered. He was heading to his house in the Port Loyola area when a gunman on motorcycle pounced on the father of one. At least two bullets hit the stevedore who was rushed to the K.H.M.H. but died during treatment. Today his family and police are looking for answers.

A stevedore was gunned down in Belize City on Thursday night while on his way home from work.  Thirty-four-year-old Raymond Arnold, described by his relatives as law-abiding, was making his way on bicycle along Central American Boulevard, a short distance away from Caesar Ridge Road, when he was mortally wounded by gunfire.  Arnold had just left his place of work at the Port of Belize Limited sometime around seven o’clock and was riding along with another unnamed individual when he was reportedly met by a person on a motorcycle who opened fire in their direction.  Police say two rounds caught the dockworker in the right upper chest and left lower abdomen.  In speaking with News Five off-camera, residents in the area recall hearing the gunshots and when they peered outside of their windows, saw Arnold staggering along the sidewalk before collapsing near this parked red vehicle.  Despite being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the Rivero Street resident succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency medical treatment.  News Five attempted to get a comment from Arnold’s family, but they respectfully declined comment.  In 2012, Arnold survived an attempt on his life when he was shot multiple times while standing in front of his home on Rivero Street.  In that incident, he was shot in the chest, chin, upper back and right leg.  Police are investigating this latest homicide.
