Woman drowns in kayak accident on Mopan River
A woman from the Cayo District is dead tonight as a result of a boating accident on the Mopan River. According to Edward Tut, a businessman from Cristo Rey, around three on Monday afternoon, he, his girlfriend, thirty-seven year Lisa Hopkin, and a friend, Amy Pierre had decided it would be fun to kayak down the river. But Tut says when they got in the vicinity of Clarissa Falls, Lisa’s kayak overturned and when she tried to swim away, she was sucked under by strong currents. Hopkin’s body later resurfaced, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Hospital.
