Belizean Linked to Sinaloa Cartel Arrested in Chetumal

A Belizean, believed to have links to the Sinaloa Cartel, was arrested on Wednesday night across the border in Mexico.  Online reports say that Dioney Rolando, who goes by the alias ‘El Nene,’ was arrested after a high-speed chase with authorities ended at the Chactemal Bridge around ten o’clock. Rolando was along with four other individuals: Manuel and Abel of Chetumal and Oscar Joel and Ulises of Mexico City.  The men were attempting to evade a checkpoint and after police noticed their suspicious behavior, the men then attempted to flee in a Nissan pickup truck. Inside the vehicle, police found a firearm and cocaine. The men were reportedly making phones calls, asking their colleagues to rescue them. This prompted Mexican authorities to call for back up and placed the men under heavy police guard. The online article says that Rolando is an employee of Zurisaday Villaseñor Mendez, alleged to be the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the area.  If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Villaseñor Mendez was once in Belize. He was arrested and charged in October 2012, at the Las Vegas Hotel at the Corozal Free Zone where police found firearms, and drugs in his room.  He was granted a seventy-five thousand dollar bail by the Supreme Court in February tenth, 2014 and skipped town.
