Brian Brown Granted Bail after Appearance in Court

Brian Brown

Today, Brian Brown was hauled to the Magistrate’s Court in Belize City and arraigned for five charges including damage to property and wounding following a raid at his house on Thursday morning. The forty-four-year-old pleaded not guilty and was offered a six thousand dollar bail plus one surety of the same amount. He is to return to court on September twenty-sixth. Just before eleven o’clock on Thursday morning, police officers raided his house off Fabers Road Extension. Brown was smoked out and removed from the property before he was taken to the Queen Street Police Station. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Brown was wanted because he had threatened the lives of his mother and siblings following a family feud over money.

“I have met with Brian Brown and his brother Jason with a view to see what can be done to bring this matter to an end. But Brian Brown is adamant that his family members owe him money and he want the money to be paid. And he had made it categorically clear that if his money is not paid, he will kill his family including mother, his brother and his sister. And that he has soldiers who can do it for him. And so as a police department, we cannot take his threat lightly. Whenever those threats are made, we must act. I will tell you that his mother lives in fear every day that he will come and do her something or will send someone to do her something. So the police, as far as I am concerned, acted within the scope of the law in how the matter was dealt with today and I commend the officers for the tactic that they used in getting him into custody this morning.  The issue right now as it relates to him and his mother is a matter that will be dealt with by the courts. Brian Brown will be charged and will be taken before a magistrate and the court will determine the matter between them. I do not foresee myself doing any talk with Brian Brown again; I have spoken to him before, he seems adamant about carrying out his actions and so the chips will fall where they may in the courts.”

There were no objections to bail, though there were concerns that he may interfere with witnesses so strict bail conditions were imposed by Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford.
