Martin Mendoza Charged for Burglary at Odette’s
Police say they made some progress in the burglary that happened at Odette’s Store in Orange Walk. They conducted a search at the home of Martin Mendoza on San Pedro Street in Orange Walk Town and there they found several items that were burglarized from Odette’s. Around two on Thursday morning, three armed, masked men broke into the store through the roof and tied up the security guard. They stole a trove of electronics including computers, cell phones and other gadgets. But before leaving the men went into the office and took the recording device that captured the footage on the surveillance cameras. Well, police say they believe that they have one of those persons in custody and are looking for others who may be connected. ACP Joseph Myvett explains how they made the discovery:
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Police conducted a search at the home of Martin Mendoza on San Pedro Street in Orange Walk Town that led to the discovery of two cellular phones and two tablets. He was detained pending investigation. A further search of another home resulted in the discovery of two cell phones and other electronic equipment. These items were found to be the property of Odette’s Store from where the aggravated burglary occurred on the second of August. Police have since arrested and charged Martin Mendoza for the crime of aggravated burglary and are seeking one other person in connection with this crime. As this is an ongoing investigation, I will not want to venture into the source of the information.”

“At the time the owner indicated that the burglars must have had some inside knowledge because they went into his office and stole the DVR as well – the DVR with security recordings. Are any of the suspects linked in any way to any employee there or previous employees?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“The person already in custody is not linked to any of those people but this is an ongoing investigation and it will definitely result in the detention of more than that one other person that is being sought at this time.”
