Caye Caulker stabbing victim in critical condition
Meanwhile, another islander remains in critical condition tonight as he recovers from stab wounds sustained early this morning. According to Caye Caulker police, nineteen year old Edward Requena was walking on Back Street around 1:00 a.m. when a man he recognised came up to him. Requena says the man pulled out a knife and stabbed him twice, once to the right side of his chest and again in his upper back. Requena was rushed to the health clinic on the island, but was later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City. Officials at the K.H.M.H. tell News 5 Requena underwent surgery this afternoon and is listed in a critical condition. Before the operation, Requena identified his attacker as one Luis Barrera from San Jose Village in the Orange Walk District. Police have since detained Barrera for questioning, but charges have yet to be filed against him. We understand that this incident transpired after an argument between the two men.
