Alleged Murderer Breaks Free; Police Investigate Their Own

Have you seen Nyle Vasquez from Dangriga? The wanted man is on the run and police are looking for him. On Saturday, the twenty-four-year-old construction worker was arrested and charged for the July second murder of Melvin Locke that happened in Dangriga. But Vasquez escaped from police custody a few hours later that Saturday evening and now police say that they have no idea where he is. ACP Joseph Myvett explains how Vasquez got away from police while in their custody.

“Shortly after the detention, sometime around five p.m. whilst officers took Mr. Vasquez out of the cell to conduct this daily hygiene he made good his escape. Police have since been seeking him since Saturday. There is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Professional Standards Branch in respect to the circumstances relating to the escape and the two officers who were present when Mr. Vasquez escaped.”

“Should the public consider him to be armed and dangerous? It is an alleged murderer on the run.”

“Well, yes but at the time he was found he was not found with any weapon but the police is considering that as well.”

“Sir is it believed that he is still in the south in Dangriga or do you believe that he has moved out of the district?”

“We are making all efforts to determine where he is. We have informed out ports of entry and a wanted poster has been issued in regards to his escape.”
