Taiwan helps upgrade Foreign Ministry

He has written so many cheques during his term of office that his wrist must be sore, but that hasn’t stopped Ambassador Charles Tsai from signing one more. On Monday the Taiwanese diplomat presented a cheque for two hundred and twenty-eight thousand U.S. dollars to Prime Minister Said Musa. This represents the sixth tranche of funding, which totals close to two and a half million U.S. dollars. The money is Belize’s share of a project to help the nations of Central America modernise their foreign ministries. While the list of assistance from the government of Taiwan is too long to mention, some recent projects include the Museum of Belize and construction of one section of the Southern Highway. Part of this most recent donation will go toward the construction of a new chancery building for the Foreign Ministry in Belmopan. For its part Belize has welcomed Taiwan’s private sector investment and supported Taiwan’s foreign policy initiatives of membership in the United Nations and other international bodies.
