Manuel Heredia’s Choice Words for Gary Greif
Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia was very confident today, bordering on arrogant, when he dismissed the challenge in his division, made official by the United Democratic Party this past Saturday. His cousin and current San Pedro councillor, Gary Greif has launched a political campaign to unseat the four-time area rep. Well, Minister Heredia clapped back today saying that Greif is ending his political career even before it starts because he cannot be beaten.
Manuel Heredia Jr., Area Rep., Belize Rural South
“There is a time for everything and the young generation today sometimes believe that they should…that you start running before you creep. Many times they have been proven wrong; that you have to creep, walk and then run and then finally you get to a certain point. And I must say very clearly this party in San Pedro, the United Democratic Party, anybody—if you take a poll in San Pedro—will tell you that it was myself together with a small group, his grandfather, that was the pioneer over there, but I was the one that actually made this party win for the first time over there. And I have been repeatedly winning over and over. And when you speak that you were not crowned a king when you are elected, it is an insult to our prime minister, to senior members like Finnegan; they have been there for many years. And there is a time when I will decide when to step down and at that point, I will support anybody that comes around. But if you want to come in without the support of our executive, without the support of myself, you are looking for a disaster. You are looking to probably finalize your career before you start. My advice to any young person; get advice. Those that do not seek advice would never succeed. Most everybody will tell you that I am the person at this point and a huge sector believes that whenever I decide to step down, that will be the beginning of the end of this party. Even the People United Party will tell you that they strongly believe—because they have seen it from outcomes of elections, municipal and general—it is Manuel Heredia, not so much the party, that is the person that is liked.”
