Home Invasion at Apartment Complex in West Landivar; Woman Injured
On Tuesday afternoon around five-thirty, there was a home invasion at an apartment complex on Campus Avenue in the north side of Belize City. Armed burglars gained access to the building through an unlocked burglar bar door and swept through three rooms undetected. When they got to apartment number seven, however, tenant Rosa Soria was inside. She opened the door and was assaulted with a firearm before the burglars proceeded to ransack the place. They fled with jewellery and household items. But their escape, at least for one, was short-lived because police swiftly captured thirty-four-year-old Frank Smith. The Raccoon Street resident was charged for aggravated burglary and burglary. Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says that they are looking for one other suspect in connection with this home invasion.

“She was suffering from a cut wound to the head. What she had mentioned to the police on that date was that she was inside the apartment when she heard someone knocking on the door. She went and opened the door and that is when two male persons entered the room and one of the male persons began hitting her with the firearm to the head causing the injuries. At the same time, the other person took advantage and stole several valuable things from her including jewelleries, laptop and household items. Upon police checking the scene, they also observed that three other apartments adjacent to that one were burglarized and stolen therein where other properties for other persons who were not in the building at the time. Police quick response led to the detention of a person by the name of Frank Smith. He was detained somewhere in the Jungle area where police conducted a search on him and found several items that were later identified as the property of Miss Rosa Soria. Not all the items that have been reported missing so far have been recovered by police.”
