Students win trip to Mexico City
Next week, two Belizean students will visit Mexico City on an official tour, their prize for winning competitions held earlier this year. Nine-year-old Grace Primary School student Shenice McKoy and thirteen year old Nardo Che from Escuela Secundaria Mexico received certificates today at the Mexican Embassy to mark their achievements. McKoy earned top honours for a painting done on Belize’s tourist attractions, while Che was awarded the Mexico Central America Prize, given to eight top students from Central America and the Dominican Republic. Che attributed his success to his parents.
Nardo Che, First Former
“They were after me seeking for my good and perfect performance in school and I felt very grateful to them and contented cause I had achieved a great and important thing in my life, my studies.”
Janelle Chanona
“What are you looking forward to seeing most in Mexico City?”
Nardo Che
“The panorama of the city, how it looks and the people itself.”
Shenice McKoy
“Just seeing it and what is how it looks and how it’s going to be when you’re in there, in Mexico City.”
Janelle Chanona
“What have you heard about it that you want to see?”
Shenice McKoy
“I heard that Mexican people talk Spanish and that it’s a beautiful place.”
Arturo Trejo, Mexican Ambassador to Belize
“We are neighbours, we have to get to know each other much better. Most Belizeans know Mexico only through Chetumal, some of them have been to Cancun, but Mexico is quite a big country with a variety of cultures, a variety of aspects in economy in politics and we would like the Belizeans, especially the children to get to know Mexico better.”
The two Belizeans will join sixteen other students from Central American and the Dominican Republic for the ten-day tour of Mexico City. Each student will be accompanied by a parent.
