3 Men Detained Following Early Morning Robbery in Mango Creek
Robbers jacked a store in Mango Creek, Independence on Wednesday and unknown to them; surveillance camera captured the armed burglary which lasted for just over a minute but likely felt like a lifetime to the victim. Three robbers acting in tandem entered the grocery store named Lisa Store. One held up the cashier at gunpoint and another emptied cash register. After taking the cash and ransacking the counter, the trio fled. Fortunately, the cashier was frightened but not physically injured. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.
On Wednesday morning just before eight o’clock, Lisa’s Store in Mango Creek was targeted by armed robbers. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the cash register after the cashier was held up at gunpoint and her life threatened. The footage clearly shows a gunman, dressed in full grey with a cap of the same colour climbing over the counter while still pointing the gun at the Chinese cashier. Seconds later, another robber leaps over the counter; he’s dressed in a black shirt, short pants and red tennis shoe and a two-tone fitted cap. A third person comes up to the counter wearing a grey shirt with a red cap and another orange shirt concealing his face. But even after the cash register was cleaned out, the robbers continued ransacking the counter area as if they were looking for something else. They would then give up and escaped with a knapsack and the loot.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Independence Police responded to the scene of a robbery at a grocery store in Independence Village where upon arrival the cashier reported that whilst at the business place, she was approached by two Hispanic male persons—one of whom was armed with a firearm—who pointed the weapon at her and demanded money before jumping over the counter and emptying the cash register before making good their escape. Surveillance cameras were viewed and we are in the process of identifying who the culprits were.”
Residents question whether the burglaries and robberies in Mango Creek area are committed by persons who recently moved into the village. Assistant Commissioner of Police says police that three persons have since been detained.
“There are constant operations being help by police in that area. Three persons are detained in connection with this robbery. We will see where this investigation goes; at this point, the complainant has not decided whether or not she wanted to proceed with charges.”
