Plan Puebla Panama meets in Belize
And in the only item in today’s news that does not involve crime, three days of meetings ended in Belize City today for the tourism commission of Plan Puebla Panama. According to a government press release, the meetings were designed to come up with ideas to link the southern states of Mexico with the seven countries of Central America through tourism. Representing Belize was Tourism Minister Mark Espat, P.P.P. Commissioner Ambassador Salvador Figueroa, Director of Tourism Tracy Taegar and Mundo Maya representative Wiezsman Pat. Among the benefits expected to emerge from the meetings are infrastructure projects to benefit underdeveloped tourist destinations. Representatives from the eight governments will discuss the other areas of integration including human resources, commerce, culture, highways, electricity, telecommunications and natural disaster preparedness. P.P.P. was launched eighteen months ago and is the brainchild of Mexican President Vicente Fox.
