NADO Has Nada for an Office and Sample Storage
According to Guerra, NADO, which is represented by former Director of Health Services, Doctor Michael Pitts, is short of basic resources for storing specimen collected from athletes. The operation of the woefully lacking one-man organization has been called to question in light of Bravo’s decision.
Hector Guerra, Attorney for Brandon Cattouse
“The decision has shown that NADO Belize, which is the organization in charge of regulating doping in Belize, is not compliant with international standards. NADO Belize lacks the basic resources. For example, in the decision, Mr. Bravo finds that NADO Belize doesn’t even have an office. It shows that NADO Belize doesn’t have the necessary facilities such as refrigeration to store athletes samples after it has been extracted from them. And so we say that this is something of grave concern, it’s something that we must not be ashamed of but we must face and we must now do something about this. This case really is a call for the government to fund these things because our athletes are out there training hard every single day, my client especially. For NADO Belize to not be held to the highest of standards when they are able to pass sanctions that can destroy someone’s life, can destroy someone’s career is truly concerning.”
