A Guatemalan national has been charged for having unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession. Police say that forest rangers discovered the Guatemalan inside Belize’s territory somewhere near the Caracol archaeological site. He was detained and handed over to the authorities.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Forest Rangers handed over to San Ignacio Police one Jaime Calderon, twenty seven years old Guatemalan. Our investigation has revealed that Calderon was inside Belize’s territory in the Caracol area and at the time was armed with a twenty two rifle which was loaded with five rounds of ammunition. The ranger patrol intercepted him and he could not produce a license for the weapon hence the reason for his detention. He has since been arrested and charged by San Ignacio Police for the offence of kept unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition.”
