The Volleyball Association Needs Help!
As you heard, Sharp says that there has been some verbal commitment of some form of assistance from G.O.B. towards the costs accumulated for the association to prepare the team and host the regional event. Today, he also discussed other pressing needs of the association – top of the agenda is their own facility. The Volleyball Association has eight national teams – four males and four females – who have all been training in the same location and stretching resources. Sharp says that with that facility, the volleyball association would like to see more government support.
Allan Sharp, President, Belize Volleyball Association
“In addition, to what is required for sports to improve and in particular, I speak on behalf of volleyball, is to have full time secretariat or a full time office that is purely for a federation to run its activities and to have full time coaches to be able to work at all its programme levels. And finally, the final one is for volleyball to have its own facility. And secondly, I would like to ask government to consult and find ways of how to raise that finance necessary to allow federations to have their own secretariat and help them finance. Each federation must do their own work – they must do most of the work. They government is only there to facilitate, that is my belief. But government has a major role to play and part of it is that we are representing country. Obviously, we expect some substantial support and substantial contribution from Government.”
