Another Suspected Drug Plane Burnt Up Near Tres Leguas

The charred remains of a downed aircraft were discovered in an area approximately one kilometer away from the Belize/Mexico Border.  The twin-engine beech craft was found near a registered airstrip in the vicinity of Tres Leguas.  The airplane was extensively damaged by fire and the only visible marking on it appears to be a registration number, PR1.  All that remained were its wings and tail.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, no illicit items were recovered from the scene of the destruction.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Wednesday, August fifteenth, shortly before eight a.m., police received information of the remains of a burnt aircraft in an area southwest of Blue Creek Village known as Tres Leguas, whereupon arrival the officers observed the remains of a burnt twin-engine aircraft on the ground at a registered airstrip in that area.  The scene was processed and the entire area was searched; however, no other item was found in the entire area that was searched.”

“Sir, would you be able to concede that the way this aircraft was handled and the location near to the border suggests that a drug operation took place?  Would you be willing to concede that that may be what happened?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I would not go into or venture into that in the absence of having the evidence to support that.”
