Pioneer hotelier honoured by C.T.O.
Pioneer Belizean hotel owner Celi McCorkle has been honoured for her work in the development of tourism in the region. McCorkle, who opened one of the first hotels in San Pedro in the 1960’s, was among fifty people receiving awards from the Caribbean Tourism Organisation. The C.T.O. celebrated its fiftieth anniversary at the annual State Ball held May thirty-first in New York City. McCorkle was also honoured locally in 2000 when she was the recipient of the first Minister’s Award presented by the Belize Tourism Board.
