Wicked 11 tops Taliban in cricket

Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re right on time for another fresh delivery of Sports Monday. Five time champion Raiders went into the Capital Life competition Friday night at the City Centre looking for its third season win in the role of host to Orange Walk’s Music Centre, who came in showing one win from three outings.

Tonight the Raiders will be without shooting guard Roger Favela, who opted out of his contract to return to the Sugar City gang for the remainder of the B.B.A. season. Thus, it’s no surprise that he gets going early opening up the scoreboard with a mighty 3. Caesar “Speedy” Novelo then goes to the left hand and the O.W. team spurts to an 11-2 lead.

But when Dwight Myvette deals to Edward “Bart” Sanchez, he raises for a 3 and we got a tied ballgame at 15 apiece. Bart Sanchez would go 2 for 5 from 3-point range, and would finish with 10 points, as he knocks down his second 3 of the match to give his team a 1-point lead.

Of course, you know Darwin Carter will show up and he knocks down two of his 11 game points right here. And at the half Raiders are up 40-27.

In second half, the Music Centre comes out firing. Caesar “Speedy” Novelo swishes through the 3. Talk about embarrassment, we’re absolutely certain Albert Alvarez would have wanted this one back, but with a lot more elevation. Nevertheless, it’s Speedy Novelo baseline for 3, and the Shell team is down by 8.

But its just too much Raiders down the stretch. Bart Sanchez is bottled up, so he finds newcomer Brandon Titus of the U.S. He hits the jumper and would finish with 12 points. Titus then deals to Damon Ollie–he would come up with 12 points in this outing.

Orange Walk does cut the deficit to 5 with this 3 pointer from Speedy Novelo. And then it’s down to 3 when Derrick Adderley executes this move–he would miss the free throws. In fact, only one point separates the two teams when Casanova Flowers embarrasses the Raider defence with this left-hand finish.

But the Raiders regain control. Leslie misses, Dwight Myvette finishes.

Biggest play in crunch-time might have come from Darren Neal, who powers his way in to deliver this left hand shot off the glass in brutal traffic. Of course, this one is much too easy for Dwight Myvette, who would strike for a team high of 17 points as the Raiders go on to post the 75-69 victory.

In the other match up over the weekend, Dangriga’s Aba Iseni fell to its fourth loss in an 86-69 blowout at the hands of San Cas U.B.

This Wednesday night at the City Centre San Cas U.B. will face the Raiders in a battle to decide who actually is the defending champion. You won’t want to miss this particular outing.

Turning to the cricket scene, the National Cricket Competition kicked off the four team playoffs at Burrell Boom as the number one seed and undefeated Wicked 11 took Taliban to kick off a 3-game series. Naturally, the winner advances to the championship round.

In this match, Randy Rhaburn came up with 35 runs for Wicked 11, but was out before our cameras began to roll. Nevertheless, the Wicked 11 were able to muster 127 runs all out. Ben Robinson and Duane Hendy them claim 3 wickets apiece to stop the Taliban at 107 runs all out despite a magnificent performance from batsman Muslar. Game 2 comes up next Saturday.

Meanwhile folks, the match between Sunrise of Lord’s Bank and Gardenia is scheduled for Saturday at Bermudian Landing, so that three game series will be extended one more week. Stay tuned.

Now let’s keep it in Burrell Boom where a monster horseracing card was staged yesterday. This is the mighty A Class 7 furlong finale featuring five monstrous steeds. And they’re off!

At the halfway mark, its Cotton Candy and Freightliner, both belonging to Richard Hoare, making the big move. At moneytime, it’s Cotton Candy bringing in the money, forcing Freightliner into second place. And of course Richard Hoare will not be complaining too much about this particular result.

That’s it for now, we certainly want to thank our cameramen for their great work over the weekend. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
