Seventeen-year-old Belmopan resident Victoria August wins KTV the Remix Season Two.

Season two of KTV the Remix came to an end on Tuesday night inside the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. There was no shortage of surprises and mega presentations as the well-loved entertainment show began with a red carpet event in the lobby before it was camera, lights and action on stage.

The finalists: Jael August, Rachel Westby, Victoria August, Guillermo Rodriguez and Inez Welcome performed one final song during the finale. Some fans say it was their best all season, since they were not being judged. But as they exited the stage, Chris Bradshaw, Jenny Lovell and Rohjani Perriott showed the viewers and the audience inside the Bliss exactly why they were this year’s judges for KTV. While Jenny and Rohjani did their version of classic songs, Chris wowed the audience with his musical prowess, playing Bruno Mars “When I Was Your Man” on his saxophone.

Viewers were overwhelmed as the show had several appearances from the world-renowned Garifuna Collective, who—if they are able to raise all the necessary funds—will head to the World Music Festival later this year.

After eight weeks of competition and a final week of voting, the top three winners were: Victoria August, Rachel Westby and Guillermo Rodriguez in that order. August is the youngest participant to have won a KTV in recent times; it’s a title she is proud to have captured.

“It is an amazing stepping zone. Dah like when yo go apply to a music school, they’ll be like you did what? You win what? And it is so great especially with the music video it will be such a huge help to help kick start my career.”

Duane Moody

“Well of course so because we understand that you are working on an album as well. So does this add into that?”

Victoria August

“Yes it does. It will be such a great help. It truly is—not only for the experience, but the win really teaches me that when you have people that love you and push you far enough and get you to do what you need to do, you can accomplish anything.”

San Pedrano, twenty-one-year-old Guillermo Rodriguez won third. He was the last man standing in the karaoke competition and primarily brought gospel and Christian music to the stage. He says the win is rewarding.

“It feels great. At some point I felt I wasn’t going to get to here, but it’s all about the support from the people and I realise I do have the support and I feel just great about it; I feel good.”

Duane Moody

“Would you say that you succeeded with your mission to one, bring the type of music that you brought to the stage and to develop your music?”

Guillermo Rodriguez

“Yes, I do feel I got it. I got the message out there; people were motivated and I broke out of my shell also.”

Duane Moody

“So what’s the next step for you?”

Guillermo Rodriguez

“Probably getting a music degree or making an album; one of the two or probably both. Who knows?”

While we missed Rachel, Victoria and Guillermo had some comments to share with the group of finalists and singers in the competition.

Victoria August

“For all the finalists that were with me, you guys did amazing and were outstanding. I am so proud of each and every one of you; you made it this far. And I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to be backstage with you guys.”

Guillermo Rodriguez

“Continue at it; don’t give up now. This is one of the first steps and this is the time we should take advantage of what we learned here at KTV.”
