CARICOM prepares for July summit
Belize currently holds the chairmanship of CARICOM and our officials have been busy preparing for that organisation’s upcoming events. Last weekend Foreign Minister Assad Shoman chaired a meeting of the Community Council, CARICOM’s second highest decision making body, to finalise agendas for the twenty-third Heads of Government Summit and a long awaited meeting of civil society leaders. Entitled “Forward Together”, the civil society conference opens July second and continues on the third with heads of government in attendance. The summit then kicks off the night of the third and ends on Friday the fifth. Both meetings will be held in Georgetown, Guyana and it is expected that a clearer vision of the role of civil society in national decision making will emerge from the encounter.
