Police Shoot a Mentally Challenged Machete-Man in Seine Bight

Seine Bight police shot a mentally challenged, machete-wielding man this morning after he turned his cutlass on an arresting officer.  Zebedee Morter was shot in the right forearm after he chopped a special constable in the back of the head.  According to police, they were responding to information that a villager had been observed swinging a machete at passersby.  When they caught up with Morter, the officers attempted to disarm him and in the process he inflicted a single chop wound injuring Special Constable Rafael Caliz.  According to the Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, several warning shots were fired prior to engaging Morter.

“Today, sometime around 9:35 a.m., Seine Bight and Placencia police responded to an incident of a male person making chopping motions at several villagers in Seine Bight Village.  As a result, police encountered one Zebedee Morter, a mentally challenged patient, who at the time was in possession of a machete.  He was approached by the police who tried to convince him to put down the machete and in the process he suddenly approached one of the officers and made a chopping motion which caused one of the officers to be injured.  One Special Constable Rafael Caliz who received one large chop wound to the back of his head.  In the process, police fired several warning shots which did not persuade him to drop the machete and as a result one additional shot was fired at him which caught him in the right forearm.  As a result, he was disarmed.  He was taken to the Placencia Polyclinic for medical attention and then later transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital under police escort.”
