Gwen Liz pageant raises funds for school
Beauty pageants are often a touchy subject for the people who put together this newscast, but when the contest in question is for a worthy cause, the consensus is that it’s worth a story. Today, Jacqueline Woods stopped by Gwen Liz High for a chat with some dedicated young ladies.

Since the Biology Lab at Gwen Lizarraga High School was open twenty years ago, the building has slowly deteriorated. But despite the poor conditions and lack of instruments, the students continue to persevere.

“The pipe in the biology lab needs to be fixed, the windows need to be fixed, we need a lock for the door, basically we need a completely whole door. The equipment, we no have beakers, test tubes, all those stuff is needed, chemicals and so forth is needed for the biology lab.”
Seventeen-year-old Dominique Montejo is one student who has taken on the challenge of finding the funds necessary to repair the lab. But Montejo and her classmates are not just begging for donations, instead the young ladies will use their talent to get the job done.

“Hi, welcome to Gwen Lizarraga High School, see you at the pageant.”
On Friday night, six young ladies will be vying for the title of
Miss Gwen Liz. The pageant, which should run for three hours, promises to be filled with entertainment.

“On the night of the pageant, all the young ladies will be coming out. We’ll be having the introduction, sportswear, either a poem or skit about Gwen Lizarraga High, evening gown and question and answer segment.”

“Hi, my name is Monique Pollard. I am fifteen years old and proudly representing Miss Gwen Liz. Please come out and have a lot of fun.”
Contestant #2
“Hi, my name is Faye Coleman and I am inviting you to the Miss Gwen Liz Pageant. So if you don’t come you’ll be missing out.”
Contestant #3
“Hi, my name Carol Flores, and I an representing the most outstanding class of 2W and I’m inviting you all to come out and watch the show. It will be full of surprises and entertainment.”

“Hi, my name is Stacy Belisle and I’m inviting everyone out to enjoy the show. I am fifteen years old and representing the class of 2R.”

“Hi, my name is Marsha Kulen and I am inviting everyone to come out and participate. There will be a lot of entertainment and I’m representing class 1B. Hope you have fun.”

“Hi my name is Dana Popper, I am fifteen years old and honoured to be representing class 2G. Come out and you’re sure to have a good time.”

“The pageant takes place on Friday, June seventh at Gwen Lizarraga High. Entrance fee if you have a school ID is five dollars. Without a school ID it’s six dollars. It starts at 5:00.”
The last time the high School held a pageant was in 1994. This time around, the students are asking the general public to support them and the improvement of their school. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.
The first Miss Gwen Liz Pageant was held in 1991. It was won by a fifteen year old fourth form student named…Ava Lovell.
