Rene Skeen Rejected by P.U.P. for Belize Rural Central

At a meeting of the national executive of the People’s United Party on Wednesday, Rene Skeen, a well-known resident of Ladyville, was also rejected from running in Belize Rural Central. According to Skeen, former P.U.P. area rep, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia will be endorsed as standard bearer for that division. He says that he has been on the ground campaigning and is confident that he would have taken Garcia out.

Rene Skeen, Political Aspirant

“My problem is if you wanted a woman, let her earn her keeps. If Dolores Balderamos-Garcia thinks she is worthy of the people of Belize Rural Central, defeat Rene Skeen in this convention and I personally will make her win the general elections if she defeats me—I will work with her. I’ve been campaigning since December. I notified the party leader John Briceño about my intention in December; he notified me that there would have to be a contested convention because at the time, Mister Chris Coye was interested in running. The problem is that about two and a half years ago, Dolores Balderamos, when she lost to Beverly Castillo, she decided to throw Belize Rural Central through the door and asked Mister Chris Coye to represent the party; which she has no authority to do. That’s not her call; hence the reason I decided to throw my hat in the ring because this is in the making for me for over two or three years that I wanted to run for Belize Rural Central. So why would you want to come back after giving up this division? After Chris Coye stepped down, you want to come back and ask the people for their vote? That to me is hypocrisy. And during my nine months or so of campaigning I cannot see on TV the way they talk about her. So I wish her luck. If you think you are worthy enough, go ahead.”
