CXC Results in Belize

Patrick Faber

The results for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, better known as CXC, have not been officially released to the media and the public as yet. But some schools in southern Belize and elsewhere have received their grades in the exams taken earlier this year. So how did Belize fair off in the exams, given a recent report that eleven thousand students in the Caribbean failed the exams? Minister of Education Patrick Faber confirmed on Thursday that the results are in country and distribution may have started. He also speaks to the fact that despite government paying for up to six subjects for CSEC exams, some students are not showing up on test days.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“I am not certain if they have started the distribution; I know that they have landed here in Belize, but in terms of the actual distribution to the students, I’m not aware that that has begun just yet.”

“Do you have an idea of how we fared off this time around?”

Patrick Faber

“Well I believe it is…it’s always difficult to say again because it is not a good reflection of the number of students who are at that level in high school. So not all of our students are taking the CSEC exams. So of those who take it, I’d say we did fairly well, but I don’t want to give the impression that we are doing well overall because it is not a complete story that is being told by those exam results. So we continue to try to get more students to sign up and as Miss McKenzie just mentioned make sure that they sign up and turn up to take the exams.”
