Murder in the West: Roshane Jones Shot Twice in the Face
A Camalote resident, Roshane Jones was found brutally murdered this morning. The body of the twenty-four-year-old was discarded in a bushy area near the Valley of Peace Village in Cayo. Jones is known to have run-ins with the law, but his family says the incidents involved petty crimes. The victim was shot twice to the face and there are signs that he was beaten before he was murdered. Jones reportedly told his roommate that he was going to hang out with friends on Monday night, but he never returned to his Belmopan house. News Five’s Duane Moody spoke to his family and police about the homicide.

The body of twenty-four-year-old Roshane Jones was discovered after eight this morning in bushes off Farmers Road in the outskirts of Valley of Peace in the Cayo District. The Camalote resident had been murdered; taken to the area from Belmopan and shot twice in the face on the side of the road before his body was dumped about a hundred feet away in bushes.
Sr. Supt. Linden Flowers, Western Regional Commander, Police Department
“Belmopan and Roaring Creek police along with detectives and scenes of crime personnel dispatched to the area where they found the lifeless body of Roshane Jones, Roshane Bevans Jones of a Camalote address. The body was observed with gunshot wounds to the face and the body has been transported to the Belmopan morgue for a post-mortem. So far the area has been canvassed and the police are looking into information that sometime around nine p.m., there were some movements in that area, which police suspect to be when this incident occurred.”
While Jones did not live with his mother, but in Belmopan with a friend, Carol Bevans says that she has since learnt that her son left home on Monday night to go out with some friends. Bevans says Jones was beaten badly before he was killed.
Carol Bevans, Mother of Deceased
“My son Shawn called me and say, “Ma you hear anything about Roshane?” And I tell him, “No. Why you ask me that?” Ih say, “Ma dehn say Roshane dead.” And I tell him, “No, Roshane no dead.” And he say, “Yes, I di come to you right now make we go dah the hospital go see ih body.” And he come and we gone and we identify him and dah Roshane yes; dah my son. He was brutality murdered; he was beaten and shot in his head. The clothes that he was wearing, the shoes I brought from Placencia and gave to him and the shirt that he had on was a shirt that he took from my house so I know him. And I know him cause he is my son. I noh know weh happen. He say Roshane was with him and Roshane tell him ih gwen out last night because Roshane was staying in Belmopan at his mother’s house with him for about a week and change now. And then he say Roshane tell ahn, “Biggs I gwen go heng with some ah my bally them.” So I ask him, I said, “Biggs you noh know who dah the man bally dehn weh ih di heng with?” He say, “No ma’am, I don’t know. I noh see Roshane with nobody.”
But what could have motivated the vicious killing of Jones? According to his mother and police, he has been charged multiple times for burglaries and robberies, but he wasn’t a violent person.
“He never tell me about nobody di threaten he or anything, but I know he has a case with Miss Anita Banner and the only person he ever tell me ina all his life do he anything dah wah young man name Melly; say ih haul wah machete and mi run ahn when dehn find ahn the burglarize wah house weh dah fi he granny. But otherwise, he neva had no problem with nobody; ih dah never wah problem person. I know ih like thief and so, but he no violent or so; he peaceful. I believe it is something else, because the people did not do him anything and it wasn’t a threat to him or anything like that cause he would have said something. But no. This is something else. I believe something went down with him. Maybe he saw something, maybe he took something, maybe he said something that he saw or something because the way they kill Roshane, dah something.”
“No not at this time; there is nothing to indicate what prompted this heinous crime. So the police is appealing to the public at this time, anybody in that area…the Agripina Cawich Bridge which comes off the George Price Highway; if anybody who’s seen something, a vehicle out of the ordinary or somebody who was in that area around the time.”
Two expended shells were recovered from the scene. Police investigation continues into this latest homicide in the west. Duane Moody for News Five.
