Honduran labourer electrocuted in San Pedro

A labourer on a San Pedro, Ambergris Caye work site is dead, presumably due to electrocution. Rufino Santos, a twenty year old Honduran, was employed on the construction of the new Belize Bank building on Barrier Reef Drive in the centre of town. On Monday at 5:15 in the evening the workmen were in the process of cleaning up for the day when Santos went up to the third floor to retrieve an extension cord. The workers down below then heard a scream and when they reached the third floor they found Santos’ body lying in a shallow pool of water, his hand still clutching the extension cord. Santos, a Honduran who arrived in San Pedro only three weeks ago, was dead on arrival at the Lions Clinic on the island. Pending the results of a post-mortem, police are assuming that the cause of death was electrocution.
