Jack Charles Cries Foul as Alleged Vehicle Thieves are Flown Back to India
A pair of Indian nationals was flown back to their home country on Tuesday after spending almost a year in protective custody in Belize. Twenty-four-year-old Keyur Barot and Jitendra Kumar were both placed on a Copa flight out of Belize. The back story is that the men allegedly stole a vehicle, as well as cash from businessman Jitendra Chawla, also known as Jack Charles, in September 2017. At the time, it was reported that the former employees of Jack Charles were en route to Dangriga to collect the proceeds of sales made in that town. They were traveling inside a Chevy Equinox when they reportedly made off with a sum of sixty-two thousand dollars. While the vehicle was later found in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala, the pair was nabbed in Mexico and brought back to Belize where they alleged that they were being held against their will and forced to work. After ten months in the custody of the immigration department, the men were expatriated with no charges being laid on them for the stolen vehicle or missing monies.
