Carlos Lopez and Peter Schmidt to be Rearrested and Charged for Drug Case
We also asked the acting Commissioner of Police about the case against thirty-three-year-old Carlos Lopez and thirty-seven-year-old Peter Schmidt. Earlier this week, the duo walked free of charges for the trafficking of five kilos of cocaine and possession of firearm and ammunition without a gun license. By all accounts, the prosecution had an ironclad case; the men were caught on surveillance camera orchestrating the crime at a cafe in the Buttonwood Bay area, before they were busted red-handed with the drugs and weapons in December of 2017. So an officer showing up late to the court, which led to the case being thrown out against the men, appears even criminal. Chester Williams confirmed today that that officer will go before a tribunal and that Lopez and Schmidt will be rearrested and charged for the crime.
Chester Williams, Acting ComPol
“In respect to what had transpired in the courts, I have directed that an internal investigation be conducted to ascertain exactly what went wrong. Directives have also been given that those persons, who were released by the court, be rearrested and charged in respect of that matter. So that will be done very shortly and the mater should be back before the court in due time.”
Duane Moody
“Sir are there any kind of disciplinary charges that this officer can face for showing up late?”
Chester Williams
“Yes, of course from what I was briefed yesterday, the named officers was placed on disciplinary charge yesterday and should be appearing before a tribunal either today or sometime next week.”
