Shakedi Baizar Gunned Down in Belize City

Twenty-three-year-old Shakedi Baizar of the Eight Miles community was shot and killed today in Belize City.  It is reported that around this two this afternoon Baizar had just exited the Matron Roberts Clinic on Magazine Road when a man approached him near an alley. Eyewitnesses in the area say that Baizar fell at the entrance of the alley when the man attacked him and he got up and tried to run through the alley, but the man fired several shots – residents say as many as six – some of which fatally hit Baizar. We ran a check on Baizar’s name and records show that in March of this year Baizar and his brother were charged for an attempted murder that happened in Western Paradise.  And going back some six years, he has had a number of run-ins with the law, including for fire-arm possession and violence.  In 2015, Baizar was found with a gun and he told the court that he was keeping it for protection because someone wanted him dead. There is a report that the murder may be gang related. We will follow up this story on Monday.
