Belmopan’s Jenny Lee Cruz is the new queen designate that will be crowned on September tenth as the seventy-third national Queen of the Bay. Cruz competed for the title against five delegates from Corozal, Belize Rural, Stann Creek, Punta Gorda and Belize City in four categories: introduction, talent, evening wear and the dreaded questions and answers. In the end, the nineteen-year-old beauty came out on top.

“I feel so great. I am so honoured to know that I have won and represented my Belmopan City and not only Belmopan City, but my entire beautiful Belize very well.”

“You also won Miss Eloquence; that means you answered your question the best, your delivery and all of that during the entire competition. How does it make you feel to know you got that distinction?”
Jenny Lee Cruz
“I feel so great because I was so nervous for the question and answer, but I am so happy I did very great.”
First runner up was Neisha Bailey of Belize City; radiant in her bright yellow gown, Bailey also won best talent for the night. She says she was nervous for the question and answer segment, but is happy with the results.

“I feel great. I feel as great as the queen. I’m smiling from ear to ear; I am proud of myself. I think I did a pretty good job and I am proud of the queen also. The most difficult segment for me was the question and answering. I studied this thing and just seeing the judges made me nervous so that was the difficult part for me, but I think I did even better in that category.”
…and with that, Queen Aliyah Ysaguirre’s reign is coming to an end. It was a memorable experience and she shared a message with her successor.

“I still feel nervous, but I am happy with the results. I think it was fair and she deserved it. My advice to her would be to just keep her head high, she has a lot of work ahead of her and Queen of the Bay, she is not going to forget this.”
During her reign, Cruz says she wants to focus on the youth.
Jenny Lee Cruz
“I want to work with the youths—girls and boys—and I want to capture the creative minds of our youths in a positive manner through programmes and vo-technical skills training for them to excel. And I also want to have a music school, I love singing, so I want to work with young people and teach them more about music.”
