Gunman with AK 47 captured by police
The sighting of a man on the street who is either drunk, stoned or mentally ill is not a particularly unusual occurrence. But when the person in question is in possession of a loaded AK 47 assault rifle, things tend to get interesting. That’s the situation faced by police on Sunday in Belize City. They report that when called to the corner of Racoon Street and Central American Boulevard, officers observed a man with an automatic rifle in his hand. As they tried to approach him, the rifleman opened fire on the cops, who took cover and fired back. The gunslinger, identified as twenty-five year old Ronald Cox, of no known address, was wounded in the right shoulder and taken to the K.H.M.H. where he refused medical treatment. Now in jail awaiting trial, Cox has been charged with keeping a prohibited firearm and ammunition, as well as aggravated assault.
