CITCO and CWU Buck Heads over Subsistence for Cemetery Staff
Employees who are a part of the Belize City Council’s cemetery staff refused to proceed to Eternal Gardens Memorial Cemetery today. The employees who are members of the Christian Workers Union say that the Belize City Council refused to pay them subsistence because Eternal Gardens is outside the City limits. This led to members of the city council and the union to hold an impromptu meeting with the cemetery staff. This afternoon Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner told the press that the dispute has been resolved.

“I believe that the matter was simply a case of miscommunication and it was resolve this morning with the City Administrator and the sanitation and cemetery workers. I believe that was resolved quite early this morning.”

“The CWU was not allowed to stay for the meeting also.”
Bernard Wagner
“But of course there is a protocol. You just can’t walk into my office and attend my meetings. There is a protocol within the CBA which clearly states that if you have plans to attend any of our meetings we must be told about it prior to the meeting.”
