S.P. knifeman stabs lady, shot by police

This morning San Pedro police had their hands full after an early morning stabbing escalated into a shooting incident involving a police officer. Reports are that around 5:30 this morning, fifty-year-old Evelinda Lopez went to the police station to report that she had been stabbed by twenty-nine year old Rutillo Lopez during a fight in her home on Pescador Drive. An officer went looking for Lopez and found him just about to leave the island via boat. P.C. Jermaine Pratt says when he walked up to Lopez and told him that he was wanted at the station for questioning, Lopez tried to stab him with a knife. While the officer dodged the blade, apparently his shirt was cut. P.C. Pratt pulled out his service revolver and shot Lopez in the leg. Rutillo Lopez and Evelinda Lopez were taken to the K.H.M.H. for medical treatment, where both are said to be in stable condition. Presently under police guard, Rutillo Lopez will face charges of attempted murder and theft as soon as he can appear before a judge. As to the motive behind the stabbing which triggered this series of events, investigations have revealed that Evelinda Lopez alleges that Rutillo stole fifteen hundred dollars from her, the exact amount of money police later found in his pockets. Rutillo’s counter argument is that two are involved in a relationship, something the woman has denied. Even though the two share the same last name of Lopez, they are not related.
