Fire simulation improves safety
This afternoon, traffic on Cesar Ridge Road was temporarily interrupted as members of the fire service, traffic department and employees of the Esso Depot participated in a fire simulation. Okay, so by now a simulation in Belize City is no big deal, but according to Esso, even though the company has never had an actual fire on its compound in their thirty years of operating here, the drill is vital to their safety procedures.
Rufino Lin, Country Co-ordinator, Esso
“We make it as real as possible. We didn’t have a real fire today, but in the event that the fire did occur, that’s where it would be located…where there was vapours exposed to some static electricity.”
Janelle Chanona
“What was the response like? You guys were satisfied?”
Rufino Lin
“Pretty much good response, we have learnt from our past drills and the critiques that we have received. The response from the Fire Department was good, BERT as well and the police and the Traffic Department. As a concern too and a company responsible to the community where we operate, we try to maintain not only this kind of emergency drill, but also hurricane emergency drills and bomb threat emergency drills. We want to assure the community that we do all that is in our power to mitigate any danger of having us in the community.”
