Elderly couple brutally beaten w/pipe in Bz. City

Story Picture
Two elderly people are tonight in the hospital after they were viciously attacked on Tuesday night in downtown Belize City by a pipe-swinging assailant. The incident took place around 10:00 p.m. at the corner of Prince and Regent Streets. According to police, fifty-eight year old Emilio Saragoza and sixty-year-old Tomasa Nah, both residents of Belize City, were walking towards the market square when a man approached them. Saragoza told police that the man grabbed him, demanding money and when he refused, beat him with a pipe until he started to lose consciousness. That’s when the assailant took twenty-six dollars from Saragoza and started to manhandle the woman. Nah, described as someone of small build, was severely beaten and left bleeding on the street beside her companion. News 5 understands that a police mobile patrol rushed Saragoza and Nah to the hospital. Officials at the K.H.M.H. tell us both are in a stable condition. Anyone with details of this senseless crime is encouraged to make a report at the nearest Police Department.
