Final four KTV contestants do battle in sing off

Story Picture
For the past twelve weeks, the brave competitors of Channel 5’s KTV have taken the stage and sang their hearts out. Tonight, the final four face off in a sound clash that will leave only one of them victorious. Earlier today, Ann-Marie spoke to the hopefuls who are all confident of a win.

After twelve weeks of intense competition, four finalists for Karaoke TV take the stage tonight to put their best foot forward in hope of becoming the champion.

According to the show’s host William Neal, finalists Vanya Garcia, Joseph Carr, Cherrymae Flowers and Rohjani Perriott will sing two songs each as they compete on a night when anything can happen.

William Neal, KTV Host

“Karaoke Television has turned out to be totally unpredictable. On any given night it seems like anybody can win. It’s not necessarily the best singer or the best performer, it just seems to be person who is best packaged for that night, meaning that they have chosen a song that matches their voice and they are able to deliver it with credibility to the audience. And once the audience buys into it, then that seems to be the winning formula.”

The winning formula for Rohjani Perriott is just to give it her best shot.

Rhojani Perriott

“I just think I’m going to go out there and try to do my best and we’ll see what happens. Hopefully it’s good enough. If not, it’s okay too.”

Cherrymae Flowers is making sure she’s in top shape to perform her Spanish selection “No Mi Queda Mas” and “Hit em up Style” in English.

Cherrymae Flowers

“I’ve been practising since last week, so I’m very prepared.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“What level of competition are you expecting?”

Cherrymae Flowers

“A very high level because everybody that’s going up can sing and they sound really good.”

Yet, Flowers is keeping her eyes on the competition.

Cherrymae Flowers

“Rohjani Perriott, she’s very, very, very good. So I think she’s the best so far.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“She’s the one you have to look out for?”

Cherrymae Flowers

“Yeah.”

Vanya Garcia, a Placencia native, a hoping her two slow tunes will woo the audience and the judges.

Vanya Garcia

“Wings Beneath my Wings” by Bette Midler and “My Heart Will Go On” By Celine Dione.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“Oh! The famous Titanic song.”

Vanya Garcia

“Yeah, I love it.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“How prepared are you to face the competition?”

Vanya Garcia

“Well I did a little bit of practising at Tipsy Tuna on Mother’s Day because they had this Mother’s Day, so I went there and put in a little practice.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“DO you feel you have what it takes to win tonight?”

Vanya Garcia

“Yeah, I think so.”

The only male contender in the group is Joseph Carr.

Joseph Carr

“Well first I’m going to do “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan, something to hype up the crowd, and later on I’m going to do “No Love” by Kevin Edmunds, so I’m going to take it slow for the ladies.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“Do you think you have what it takes to win tonight?”

Joseph Carr

“Well, I think it’s in the hands of the judges. Whatever decision the judges makes anyway, there’ll be some people who will be happy and some people who will not be happy with it. But like I said, I won’t be here saying that I know I have what it takes to win. I know what I have; I don’t know what the other competitors have. All I can say is good luck to the rest of the ladies that I’m in this competition with, I wish them the best, but when they come they better come prepared because I’ll be prepared.”

And after KTV’s thirteen weeks of competition, tonight it all comes to an end, but not before Belizeans realise how great local TV could be.

Rhojani Perriott

“Maybe from this programme we can get into more Belizean type entertainment programmes, not necessarily KTV, which I know was a complete surprise, the popularity of it, but more serious programmes, maybe a talk show. Maybe this can be the beginning of more spin-offs, more Belizean television I think.”

The new KTV champ walks away with one thousand dollars cash courtesy of Channel 5. And some contestants are already spending the money.

Cherrymae Flowers

“My daughter is going to high school in September, so I already tell here that if I win, this money is going towards her high school, money for her books and everything.”

The show gets started at nine as usual, but for sure you’re going to have to fight for seats. The cover charge is five dollars, and remember to leave the children at home.
