Story Picture
More than likely you or your child has eaten at least one of their products, be it corn chips or biscuits. The Diana Company based in San Salvador distributes a wide range of tasty treats all over Central America and starting soon, they’ll have their own warehouse in Belmopan. This morning, Belmopan Mayor Anthony Chanona held an official signing and ground breaking ceremonies with officials of the company, marking the investment venture. According Diana’s C.E.O., Hugo Barrera, as soon as the kinks can worked out, they’ll get down to business.

Hugo Barrera, CEO, Diana Company

“Well we hope to be operating within six months more or less. That depends a little on what we have to do with the construction of the site and we still have to prepare the land and we have a project that’s already in plans and we believe that it should be done in six to eight months more or less.”

Q: This distribution facility, what are the products that will be distributed?”

Hugo Barrera

“We have different kinds of products, we have three lines, candies, snacks and cookies also. So we’re gonna send the three lines. With snacks, we have cheese curls, nacho chips, tortilla chips. I think people are going to like it and they’re gonna enjoy it.”

Anthony Chanona, Mayor, Belmopan

“We feel that the Diana Company, because of the potential, the international accreditation that this company has, that it will begin, we’re hoping in our vision, a domino effect to bring the infrastructure, to bring the confidence that this park needs. As you notice, it’s out here in the bush so to speak, but with this confidence that Diana has expressed in Belmopan, we are going to make this facility and this area offered to all other foreign investors and all local investors alike to be able to try to create phase one, which is fifteen two-acre parcels. And we hope to transfer that into five hundred jobs.”

The new distribution centre is to be located just outside Belmopan near the Hector Silva Airstrip. The Belmopan City Council estimates this investment at close to two hundred and fifty thousand U.S. dollars.
