Lotto jackpot hits record high
At over one hundred and seven thousand dollars, it’s the biggest lotto jackpot since the current franchise holder took over the game in 1995. Today we dropped by the lotto office, and even though we did not find a long line of people buying tickets, we were told that sales have increased substantially for Wednesday’s draw.
Edgar Flowers, Sr. Accounts Clerk, Tropical Gaming Co.
“They just don’t buy one ticket or two ticket. People come in buy like ten quick picks, which is about twenty dollar. So when they come in the come to spend, especially like how the jackpot is so high.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Is it true that people spend as much as five hundred bucks?”
Edgar Flowers
“Sometimes. You have a couple of people, but those are people that have that kind of money to spend. Most people spend at least five to ten dollars on a draw day, on a Saturday or a Wednesday when they know the lotto will be playing on that particular day.”
Jacqueline Woods
“What are the chances of anyone winning on Wednesday?”
Edgar Flowers
“Well, how many people are there in country of Belize, and you take that amount of people and let’s say you buy two tickets, which is four dollars, and there are at least two hundred and fifty thousand people in Belize, so you can figure that out from there.”
Lotto tickets can be bought for two dollars each at the Tropical Gaming Company’s office on Bishop Street or at any of the lotto outlets around the country. The odds of any single combination of numbers being picked are two hundred and thirty-seven thousand, three hundred and thirty-six to one.
