Belize City Brothers Shot on Neal Penn Road
Prior to this morning’s shooting on York Street, at about seven p.m. on Wednesday night, shots rang out—some say up to nine blasts—on Neal Pen Road Extension. As the echoes from the blasts subsided, two brothers had been hit. Thirty-five-year-old moneylender, Jermaine Garbutt and forty-year-old deliveryman Everal Neal were hit to the feet. The siblings were socializing outside their house at ninety-five Neal Pen Road when two men on a motorcycle rode up and one of them opened fire on the unsuspecting brothers. Quick response from the police led to the detention of the two suspects, believed to be from the Jane Usher Boulevard area.
ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
“Jermaine Garbutt, a thirty-five-year-old Belizean of number ninety-five B Neal Pen Road; he was suffering from three gunshot wounds—one to the right knee, one to the left knee and one to the left leg. And also seen was Mister Everal Neal, a forty-year-old Belizean of that same address; he was seen with an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of his hip. What police has gathered so far is that both of them were standing in front of their residence when two male persons stopped on a motorcycle and one of the male persons fired a barrage of gunshots causing the injuries to Mister Garbutt and Mister Neal. Both of them are presently admitted in a stable condition. There are two persons detained at this moment for that shooting incident that police are interviewing.”

“I understand that through a rapid response from the police, you all were able to intercept a motorcycle?”
